La múltiple lucha was: an exhibition and publication project that showed the complex and explosively contradictory dynamics of performative constructions that inform ambiguities in lucha libre, rendering wrestling so completely fierce and volatile.
La múltiple lucha was: a series of photographies (Maris Bustamante, Rotmi Enciso, Lourdes Grobet, Tabea Huth, Gerardo Montes de Oca Valadez), videos (Maja Borg, Raúl Cuesta & Anaïs Huerta, Charles Fairbanks, Regina José Galindo, Israel Martínez in collaboration with Gerardo Montes de Oca Valadez, Michael Ramos Araizaga, Jesusa Rodríguez, Carla Pataky), remnants of a performance (Mariana Botey, Katia Tirado), drawings (Paola Picazo), a poster and an artist’s book (Martha Hellion), a cartoon (Mariel Rodríguez), a documentary (Arturo Peréz Torres), a presentation (Colectivo Acción Solidaria con México-Austria) and a publication (Heather Levi, Tabea Huth, Salvador Novo and the artists).
La múltiple lucha was: a versus of lucha libre and art. For as much as lucha libre has taken place both in and outside the arenas, and as much as it has taken place through artistic production and appropriation, it defies easy and simple categorization. Lucha libre is one of a whole string of forms that are characterized by fluidity and improvisation, intimacy and contact, immediacy and spectacle, parody and politics.
La múltiple lucha encouraged to question which forms of agency are developed and which powerful conditionalities and appearances take effect in and beyond lucha libre, the works and the texts presented.
