La “Patente” reinterpretada
The reenacted „patent“

Reenactment in Oaxaca, Mexico
July 2005

Reenactment of a „patent“ that comrads of the PKP (The Palestine Communist Party – marxist-leninist jew-arab party) invented somewhere between 1921 and 1944 when they acted illegally.

The pamphlets show a sketch of the „patent“ s construction on one side and on the other its explanation (in Spanish):

"The „patent“ comprises a small board that is fixed on roofs’ balustrades. On one side of the board pamphlets, that are weighted down with a soft fruit (not to harm anyone, e.g.: an orange), are placed and on the other side a tin can with a small whole that is filled with dry sand. The sand trickels slowly out of the tin can, the board cants to the side of the pamphlets. First the fruit is falling down, then the pamphlets that flap in all directions."
out of Ruth Lubitsch, Ich kam nach Palästina, Geschichte meines Lebens, p. 140

After reenacting the “patent” in Oaxaca during the 1º Encuentro/Laboratorio de Arte Acción I got confronted with the reality of „modern“ city's centers. The pamphlets were not even more than 5 minutes in the streets, when a cleaning-woman arrived picking up all of them arguing: „So they won’t be all over the place.“ In other places of the city one could find the pamphlets even days later.
